I realized after attending a meeting last night with a developer of affordable housing trying to place such a development right "in front" of our neighborhood, that we in Surprise don't actually realize what decisions are being made around us without being fully informed, consulted, and ultimately represented. It's time to change that, and we will create forums here to educate on it. Affordable housing has its place, but the geographical and socio-economic placement is critical to its success (downtown can be good, and city outskirts can be bad). Right now our City of Surprise elected council leaders aren't doing their homework to understand that, so we need to unite to do the homework for them, and to have them represent us.
